Overview

A lot of students have dreamed of working at a local café in Australia, but it is not easy for an international student. Cultural differences and lack of English speaking skills make it nearly impossible, but we have heard the voices of our students and created this course especially for working holiday makers to help their dreams come true. Students enrolling in this program, first enhance their speaking and listening abilities with the Callan Method, and then join the Hospitality English course. During the Hospitality English course, the students will learn vocabulary and phrases used in the hospitality industry. By constantly repeating what they have learned many times, the students will effectively be able to gain the speaking skills required to work in a local café. After the successful completion of the Hospitality English course, the students can then participate in work experience at a local café. (unpaid work).

Role-playing worked! I could speak with the local customers in very natural way!!

My history of JEC Hospitality English Course
I had no confidence in speaking English, so I was seeking for a language school that could increase my speaking ability, and then I found JEC and saw this course. I had wanted to work at a local café, and this course convinced me that I can possibly work in the place where I wanted after studying Hospitality English; this is why I decided to enroll in this course. The course I had chosen was 6 weeks of the Callan Method, 2 weeks of the Hospitality English course, and one week of work experience; the total of 9 weeks.
In the 6 weeks of the Callan Method course, I focused on speaking skills, and by the time I was getting accustomed to listening to English, the Hospitality course just started, so I could begin the course with the smooth transition and I believe this helped me understand the course better. In the Hospitality English course, I learned technical terms and simple phrases, and the teachers helped me with a lot of authentic and practical examples that are not even in the textbook. Furthermore, the course provided me with more than enough time of role-plays, so I could practice what I had learnt in the role-plays; this really paid off for the one week of work experience at a local café.

When I was at the local café, I was quite nervous at first time, but the staff at the café and the customers were so kind that I got hang of it so easily with the use of the phrases and the vocabulary I had learnt in Hospitality English; it was so useful that I was able to serve customers in very natural way. Without the role-plays, I could not have done it so smoothly. Moreover, in practically working at the café, I learned new ways of sayings on top of what I have learned. Those sayings are so real and I can tell that it was something that we have to experience to learn it but not with the textbook. Everyone at the café was really nice and I felt I did not want to leave there and miss them for sure.

Overall, I had very precious experience in the school with many kind teachers and at the local café with wonderful staff. I appreciated for the teachers that taught me the English, the school staff that arranged the work experience, and the staff at the café that supported me with patience. I would like to say thank you for everyone that helped me!

If anyone is dreaming of working at a local café in Australia but thinks they have no chance, this course would be suitable for you, and take it from me, I would love to recommend this course to you!!!
