Emma is our teacher Trainer. She uses her extensive knowledge and experience of the Callan Method to ensure that all our teachers are trained to very high standard.

Anyone can learn English by the Callan method. It works for people of all ages and abilities. The emphasis is on spoken English and on the notion that one learns through practice and repetition. There is no homework. All learning and revision takes place within the lesson and speed is of the essence. The teacher asks set questions twice at slightly faster than normal speaking speed and prompts an immediate answer in order to accustom the students to hearing and responding to the language as it is spoken in shops and in the street. Long answers are encouraged to give the student maximum speaking practice. There is no time for students to think about the answer or to translate the answer into their own language because they never know when the teacher is going to direct a question at them. This way they learn quickly because they are discouraged from anticipating an answer and forced to think only in English. To assist understanding, the teacher uses actions.
For example, while explaining the verb to open, the teacher opens the door.
To assist pronunciation and intonation, the teacher imitates the students’ mistakes first before giving the correct pronunciation. This way they can hear the error. Because the teacher is constantly moving and firing questions at random and because the students learn new words and new grammar every day, the lessons are always interesting.

I have seven years experience in teaching the Callan method to people of various ages and nationalities and I can guarantee it works. I have also learnt some Italian by this method. It is ideal for people who find studying difficult or for people who are very busy because it requires almost no conscious effort from the student. The teacher helps at all times and it is easy to remember the material because the same questions and answers are practised over at least three lessons. This method is so fast and effective that once you try it you will not want to learn by any other way.
